When a patient is in need of hospice care it means that their illness or condition is unable to be cured. Patients are usually transitioned to hospice care when doctors believe they have around 6 months or less to live.
In-Home Hospice Care
The purpose of hospice care is not to cure a patient's illness but to care for them and make sure that they are as comfortable as possible. In order to make sure that hospice patients are comfortable they are provided with symptom control, pain management, psychological support, and spiritual support. Hospice care helps ease the pain and improves the quality of life for patients suffering from a terminal illness. Even though patients are put on hospice care when they are believed to be within their last 6 months of life, There are cases in which patients' conditions improve, and they are taken out of hospice.
